Ombre Mani 101: Tips and tricks

Hey y'all today I'm going to talk about a nail trend that has been all over Pinterest for a while.  I'm talking about Ombre manicures!  Surprisingly I just discovered this nail trend via Pinterest in February!  In this post, I'm going to talk about this trend and give you some tips and tricks to achieve an amazing ombre manicure on your own nails!

So what is an Ombre manicure?
My definition of an Ombre manicure is when you paint your nails 5 different shades of a color that is in the same color family.  For example, for my ombre manicure I used the color Orange as my main color.  I just started with a bright red orange polish on my thumb and gradually went lighter with the rest of my nails.

How can you achieve this look?
All you have to do is grab 2-5 polishes that are in the same color family.  For my mani I was able to find 5 different polishes that could go together to make a nice ombre affect on my nails.  If you don't 5 polishes that are gradually different in color then you can take 2 or 3 polishes( a dark, medium, and light shade) and achieve the same look.  This process can be a little more difficult than just using 5 polishes because you'll have to mix your colors with white, or whatever color you need, to make the gradient affect.

Are there certain polishes that you have to use?
No, you can use whatever polish that you want.  It can have a metallic finish or you can even use a glitter polish.  Personally I like to use cream colors, but with the mani that I did I had to use one shimmer polish.  You can even mix different finishes together if you want to add a little pizazz to your mani.

Are Ombre nails and Gradient (Fading) nails the same thing?
Personally, I don't think so.  I mean I've seen people call an ombre mani a gradient mani and vice verse, but from what I've learn from watching videos, reading blogs, etc.  I think that an ombre and a gradient mani are two different things.  I'm not saying that your wrong if you call an ombre mani a gradient mani I'm just saying that people sometimes learn different terms for certain thing and this, ombre/gradient mani, is something that I've seen a lot of people use different names for.

I hope this post was helpful for you and let me know if you have any questions about nail trends that you've seen.
